On December 12, National Central Library Director-General Shu-hsien Tseng visited the University of Zurich and with Vice President of Education and Technological Information Christian Schwarzenegger held an opening ceremony for their Taiwan Resource Center for Chinese Studies (TRCCS). Others in attendance included University Librarian Rudolf Mumenthaler, College of Asia and Oriental Studies Dean David Chiavacci, other faculty from the college, and Taiwan in Geneva Representative David Huang. This formal collaborative project is an affirmation that can benefit both parties in promoting various types of scholarly exchange.

In the morning of December 12, NCL Director- General Shu-hsien Tseng also met with Pestalozzi- Bibliothek Zürich (PBZ) Librarian Felix Hüppi to donate books for a Taiwan Corner. In attendance was Taiwan in Geneva Representative David Huang. Dr. Hüppi extended a special thanks for the book donation, which was a wonderful addition to their collections. Both parties hope that in the future there can be even more collaborative endeavors and exchange.

Setting up this Taiwan Corner, Director- General Tseng represented NCL in donat ing almost 50 volumes of exquisite publications from Taiwan, including children’s books and others on art, architecture, historical persons, geography, and customs and culture. These are displayed on their own bookshelf that says “Taiwan Corner” at the top. The bookshelf was also given to the library for use as a sort of exhibition or display but that patrons can make use of. Books can be rotated in and out, put on display at other branches, etc. It is hoped that the books donated can help the residents of Zurich gain an initial understanding of Taiwan. Regarding NCL’s donation, Librarian Hüppi stated his library services many types of ethnicities, and so he is extremely thankful and welcomes these Chinese books from Taiwan. They will add to the library collection and provide patrons there with a greater understanding of Taiwan through the books on the Taiwan Corner bookshelf.
