Conference Introduction:

Chinese Studies can be understood through many distinct interpretations of its exact meaning and such a situation may be observed already for a long time. At the same time, however, it seems that the evolution of these understandings accelerated rather rapidly during recent times due to many significant factors that are affecting the shape of the contemporary cultural reality of our globe in a highly dynamic way.

This is why it seems reasonable to put under reflection the contemporary shape and condition of research endeavors related here. Therefore, the mutual interdependences between Chinese Studies and contemporary cultural changes at a global scale are going to serve as a point of reference for our presentations and discussions. The potential similarities and differences between global and local tendencies may also serve here as a reference point.

Simultaneously, a possibly rigorous combination of the practice and theory of interpretations and translations of Chinese texts is going to be discussed. In a more specified manner, the methodological approach of the hermeneutics of multilinguisticality is going to be presented, analyzed, and interpreted. The hermeneutics of multilinguisticality as a methodological proposal is rooted mainly in the work of Hans-Georg Gadamer and Jean Grondin and additionally combines the approaches of translation studies and reflections of practicing translators. It is an original theoretical proposition of a methodological and methodical character.

The main research objectives in the context of the conference are to carry out theoretical examination concerning semantic interpretations of selected Chinese philosophical and literary texts as well as to try to put under reflection the challenges and opportunities of not solely individual work endeavors in this rather complicated area.
