Quality International Books from the 2025 Taipei International Book Exhibition Donated to NCL Collection by Guest of Honor Italy and Other Participating Organizations

As a long-time advocate of reading cultivation and cultural exchange, National Central Library participates in the Taipei International Book Exhibition every year, promoting the ancient texts in the NCL collection to members of the public. In addition, NCL actively works to seek donations of quality books from exhibition participants from around the world after the close of the exhibition in order to provide even richer international reading resources for NCL readers.

This year, NCL received book donations from Guest of Honor Italy, as well as from many participating organizations including from Poland, Belgium, Chile, Japan, Thailand, and Hong Kong. These post-exhibition book donations number in the hundreds and include a diverse variety spanning literature, art, picture books, business, and practical books. In order to thank the many participating organizations for their donations of such excellent books, NCL Director-General Han-ching Wang personally visited each organization from February 5th to 7th to receive the donations and present letters of appreciation, expressing deep gratitude for their generosity.

Director-General Han-ching Wang expressed that the Taipei International Book Festival is a major annual event in the global world of publishing, featuring an impressive array of carefully selected works from countries around the world, allowing readers to explore the beauty of the world through books. NCL reached out to this year’s Guest of Honor Italy as well participating organizations from other countries in order to actively seek quality book donations featuring characteristic themes from foreign cities to enrich the NCL collection, thereby allowing these excellent books to continue their influence long after the conclusion of the exhibition, becoming important resources through which members of Taiwan’s public can gain understanding of international culture, economics, and social trends. In addition, these books will provide new perspectives on the strengths of the publishing industries of these countries, providing a valuable reference for foreign-language book acquisition in a variety of genres and making a significant long-term impact.

Donations to NCL this year include books from a wide array of countries in Europe, Asia, and Latin America, covering rich and diverse topics. In addition to the donation of nearly 100 works of literature and picture books from Guest of Honor Italy, donations were also made by the Polish Book Institute, Japan’s Tokuma Shoten Publishing, the Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand, and Hong Kong’s Art and Culture Outreach for the second consecutive year, totaling hundreds of books including literature, art, and picture books. In addition, many participating organizations made their first donations this year, including Belgium’s Clavis Publishing, which donated over 100 picture books, the Chilean Trade Office, which donated 15 books by Chilean authors and Spanish-language picture books, Japan’s Shufunotomo, which donated around 80 lifestyle-genre books, as well as Japan’s Asa Publishing which donated over 40 books in the business and language-learning genres.
