National Changhua University of Education Vice President Yu-min Tseng attended the opening ceremony and shared his experiences utilizing AI tools. He further encouraged participants to make good use of emerging technologies, try new things, and accumulate practical hands-on experience in presenting research results in order to become the new driving force in the world of academia. The youth scholars enthusiastically participated in the three-day camp, reaping ample rewards from this journey of learning to take with them as they move toward a broad and bright academic futures.
The second session of the Youth Scholar Development Camp reached a fruitful conclusion after being held at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, marking the first time the event was held in Taiwan’s southernmost county. 30 students from 15 high schools across 5 counties attended the camp. NCL Director-General Han-ching Wang and NPUST Vice President Shang-min Ma gave remarks at the opening ceremony, encouraging students to cultivate a rich spirit of research and a passion for exploration during the intensive three-day program of the camp. Classes covered a diverse range of topics: Professor Chia-liang Tsai taught about multidisciplinary thinking and self-guided learning, Researcher Y. Henry Sun explored AI applications and future trends, NCL Assistant Editor Ting-you Wu taught a class in English introducing library resources and research skills, Associate Professor Pao-nuan Hsieh taught about research design and paper writing, inspiring students to consider possible research directions. At the completion ceremony, participants demonstrated the rich knowledge they attained during the program and were presented with completion certificates and awards, bringing the camp to an end with their joyous applause.
The third session of the Youth Scholar Development Camp began on August 6th at National Sinying Senior High School, bringing together 22 talented high school students from around Taiwan to embark on a journey of academic exploration. NCL Director-General Han-ching Wang encouraged students to engage in critical thinking and also introduced the nearly completed Southern Branch of the National Central Library, which will represent a new milestone of library and local education collaboration. The Southern Branch will include collections, restoration, research and development and other diverse learning functions, turning southern Taiwan into an important base for knowledge and culture. The camp included a rich schedule of classes: Director-General Han-ching Wang taught about the development of different schools of thought and how to inspire creativity; Researcher Y. Henry Sun explored AI applications and research ethics; NCL Assistant Editor Ting-you Wu guided students in resource searches and management, and Associate Professor Pao-nuan Hsieh taught about research design and paper presentation techniques. The program concluded with participants presenting their research projects, impressing the judges with their academic potential. Not only did the program aim to develop research skills, it also marked a new chapter in the deepening of relationships between the Southern Branch and local educational institutions, so that the Southern Branch of the National Central Library can become a new starting point for knowledge to take root and grow.

This session brought together 35 participants from 28 high schools around Taiwan, marking the end of this year’s programs. At the opening ceremony, NCL Director-General Han-ching Wang encouraged students to think for themselves and dare to ask difficult questions as they experience the entirety of the research process. A rich program of classes was held including Professor Chia-liang Tsai sharing experiences from his own learning journey as well as his passion for research; Associate Professor Cathy Lin discussed academic ethics and academic integrity in the age of AI; NCL Associate Editor Ting-you Wu introduced concepts of information literacy and library collection resources; Associate Professor Wei Jeng guided students in gaining a better grasp of research methods; Associate Professor Pao-nuan Hsieh taught conference paper writing and presentation techniques. During their final reports, participants presented their rich project results, receiving praise from the judges. NCL Deputy Director-General Chih-tsung Weng presented participants with certificates and awards, bringing this year’s Youth Scholar Development programs to a fulfilling close.

2025 Youth Scholars Development Camps Held with NCL Leading New Trends in Critical Thinking and Research in the Age of AI
The first of this year’s Youth Scholars Development Camps began on July 14th at National Changhua University of Education. A total of 38 talented students from nearly 20 high schools across Taiwan gathered together to embark upon a challenging and inspiring three-day learning journey.
