National Central Library Donates Books in Traditional Chinese to Chinese School in Munich, Germany

On November 3, 2014, Director General Shu-hsien Tseng was in Germany to attend the opening of the Taiwan Resource Center for Chinese Studies at the Bavarian State Library. The principle from the Chinese School in Munich (German: Chinesische schule in München), Yi-shin Chen, was in attendance. Principal Chen expressed the need her pupils have for children and young adult books in Chinese and her hopes of a donation from Taiwan. The school has 190 kindergarten, elementary and high school students. In its curriculum, it primarily uses Chinese Phonetic Symbols and traditional Chinese characters. On Christmas Eve 2014, National Central Library sent out its first shipment of donated books. Principle Chen commented that this was the best present the school received for Christmas that year. NCL invited Taipei Public Library to also participate. It donated many illustrated, children, and young adult books in traditional Chinese. These books provide overseas Chinese children the opportunity to learn the beauty of Chinese through reading.
