The Best Reading Is at National Central Library

National Central Library participated in the 2014 Taipei International Book Exhibition in an entirely new way, the highlights of which follow: 

1.Floating Clouds: An Exhibition of NCL’s Collection of Manuscripts by Famous Authors
On display were manuscripts from famous Taiwan authors, including those by authors, poets, and children’s authors such as Mrs. Wei-wei, Lin Huanzhang, Pai Hsien-yung, Yang Qingchu, Yu Guangzhong, Luo Men, Liang Danfeng, Hua Yan, Liu Musha, Liu Daren. During the six days when the exhibition was open, over 3,000 people came. 

2.Library Forum: From Old to New—Knowledge in and Value of “Books”
The forum was divided into two parts: “From Old to New: The Beauty of Books” and “Knowledge in Books: Old Books and Used Books.” The majority of the 220 attendees came from public libraries, with some coming from as far as mainland China. Publishers and private book collectors also participated. 

3.The Yellow Salon Promotional Event: An Information Meeting Cooperative Endeavors to Publish Ancient Books in National Central Library’s Special Collections
Chang Wei-tung, from NCL’s Special Collections division, spoke on the ancient books in their collection and NCL’s rules for and examples of borrowing NCL’s ancient books to print republications. He also invited the publishing industry to do more to increase the circulation of ancient texts and helped the public better understand what books are in NCL’s possession. 

4.Special Topic Exhibition: “A Trip through Time: Postcards”
This exhibition displayed over 200 original and digitally reproduced postcards from the early days of the Republic. Specific themes included Silhouettes of Home, Street Talk, Man and the Land, Time Traveler, Hard-working Young Man, and Sounds of the City.
