The President of the National Library of France (BnF), Mr. Bruno Racine visited the NCL in the morning of August 23rd, 2013. He received a warm welcome from NCL Director General Tseng Shu-hsien and the NCL staff. The French Institute in Taipei attached great importance to the distinguished guest coming from the prestigious Library of France which traces its origin to the royal library founded at the Louvre Palace by Charles V in 1368. 

 

Mr. Racine was accompanied by Valentine Gigaudaut, Officer designated by the French Institute for French Cooperation and Matters on Publications. 

NCL Director General Tseng pointed out the good cooperation and exchange relations over the years between the BnF and NCL, and expressed her gratitude for this continuing relationship highlighting the 2010 joint organization with Taipei Ricci Institute, Taipei French Institute on “From Text , Understanding France: The French writer Manuscript and Images Exhibition and French Film Week " activities as well as the ancient Chinese bibliographic database cooperation which began in 2012. Furthermore, BnF deputy Director, Mr. Arnaud Beaufort came to Taiwan in April to participate in the International Symposium to celebrate NCL 80th anniversary. Director General Tseng emphasized that all these events are significant indicating the vitality of NCL and BnF cooperation and exchange.

President Racine thanked NCL for all the cooperation and exchange activities, and expressed his hope that the two Libraries can continue to establish long-term partnership to promote more varied cooperation 
A visit to the rare books room was arranged to present NCL’s rare books collections and its digitization initiatives. Having served as Secretary for Culture in the City of Paris and President of Centre George- Pompidou, National Center of Art and Culture in Paris, Mr. Racine showed heightened interest in the essence of Chinese Culture shown in the rare books collections.
