The Nation’s Largest “Poster to the Power of N” Exhibition Presents Thousands of Thousands Postures

Six years have been passed since its started in 2007 the “Nation-Wide Science and Technology Project of Collection Digitization and Digital Learning,” a project that the National Central Library, in cooperation with the Executive Yuan National Science Council, started to work on the digitization of NCL collection of art posters printed in Taiwan. In order to present the accomplishment from viewpoint of stage development and to introduce to the public the most post collected nationally in terms of category and volume, i.e., “Databases of Art Poster Images in Taiwan,” NCL precedes all others and is the first one to display simultaneously the flat poster works and the digitized poster databases – “Poster to the Power of N: NCL’s Digital Archives of Art Posters” with the displaying period from September 25, 2012 through February 24, 2013. An opening ceremony was held by NCL at 3:00 pm, Monday, September 24, 2012 in the NCL Arts and Audiovisual Center (156, Yangping South Road, Taipei). Public have received the warm welcome. The first subject in the exhibition of “Poster to the Power of N” is the “Databases of Art Poster Images in Taiwan” that introduces the procedures of digitization of collections. The subject includes 21 categories such as music, drama, dancing, calligraphy and painting, photography, design, competition, human concerns, and etc. Computers are provided for attending audience to have the hands-on operation on site for a personal experience of databases. The second subject in the exhibition is to actually present, in front of the eyes of audience, the poster images that have been stored and now retrieved from databases. The “Poster Imaging Space” displayed on second and third floors of the exhibition site presents single piece of posters and a series of posters with subject such as “Landscape in Taiwan,” “Promotion of Reading,” and etc. with a total of 200 individual pieces of posters, and therefore, is publicly recognized as one of the most largest exhibition of its kind in number in Taiwan. At the entrance of third floor, there is a virtual first page of “Databases of Art Poster Images in Taiwan” for audience to perceive realistically the rich image databases currently owned by National Central Library and the real copies of collected posters. In addition, there is also an audiovisual area on site which allows audience to be familiar themselves with the processing of digitization.
