2011 International Workshop for Professional Librarians:Sinological Resources and Services

I. Origin: The National Central Library and the East Asian Libraries over the world as well as Chinese Studies Institutes have close exchanges. It is vital to understand their use of Chinese Studies resources and their demands. In view of this, since the year 2009, the National Central Library has conducted “Overseas Professional Librarians Workshop”. The core of the program focuses on important domestic Chinese Studies resources and services. Other countries also share their respective current development in Chinese Studies. Provision is given to overseas East Asian professional librarians to register and participate in the workshop. This year, a 5-days workshop will be opened to East Asian professional librarians of different countries. Experts and scholars are invited to give talks. An approximate number of 30 persons are expected to register. Besides the study program, visits to libraries and cultural sites are included. II. Course Content: 1. Keynote Speech: National and foreign experts and scholars are invited to give lectures 2. Introduction to sinology resources and services: such as NCL, the Academia Sinica, the National Palace Museum, National Taiwan University, Academia Historica, Taiwan Film Archive and other countries in Europe, USA and Asia 3. Visits of the National Central Library, National Palace Museum, Academia Sinica and other places 4. Practicum and sharing of personal experiences and reflections on the workshop 5. Exhibitions on digitalized results of Chinese Studies and related subjects; publications display IV. Participants: Mainly for professional librarians V. Date: October 17 – 21 (Monday to Friday) , 2011 Venue: National Central Library VI. Expenses: Participation in the program is free of charge. Participants have to provide their own transportation fees and accommodation. VII. Conference Language: Mainly in Chinese VIII.
