NCL and Ulaanbaatar Trade and Economic Representative Office in Taipei cohosted Poetry Readings by Mongolian and Taiwan Poets on November 10. Invited to the event were many renowned poets from Mongolia and Taiwan, including Taiwan poet Murong Xi. They read poetry and interacted through the written word. Also in attendance were members of the World Poets Society, the Mongolian Writers Association, the President of PEN International from Slovakia, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, Mongolian students in Taiwan, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Mongolian and Tibetan Affairs Commission, and many others. During Director General Tseng’s remarks, she cited one of Murong Xi’s poems, effectively opening up the poetic dialog between the two countries that day. The poems read at the event described many delicate feelings, including that between lovers, sentiments toward the island of Taiwan, the loneliness of entering society, the absolute freedom of one’s heart, and fervent patriotism. Those in attendance enjoyed the intoxicating beauty of poetic description and savored the sentiments that make up life.
