Director-General Tseng Travels to India to Share the NCL’s Experience of Creating Taiwan Memory E-database

In order to share with other countries the experience the National Central Library (NCL) has gained in creating the Taiwan Memory e-database, NCL Director-General Shu-hsien Tseng accepted an invitation to the “International Symposium on Emerging Trends and Technologies in Libraries and Information Services” (ETTLIS 2018), hosted by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNCA). Director-General Tseng traveled to India, where she delivered lectures and participated in an informal discussion.

Director-General Tseng’s first stop was the IGNCA on February 22, 2018, where she delivered a lecture entitled “The National Memory of Taiwan: Current Development and Future Prospects of the Taiwan Memory System of National Central Library.” Focusing on the NCL’s Taiwan Memory e-database, in her lecture she talked about the technology used and experience gained by the NCL in establishing a database for preserving a nation’s memory.

On the morning of February 23, at ETTLIS 2018, Director-General Tseng spoke on the “National Library’s Efforts to Manage Archives and Provide Services for Digital Resources in Taiwan.” In this lecture, she shared the NCL’s experience with regard to file management and the provision of digital resources. In the afternoon, Director-General Tseng participated in a discussion on the “Preservation and Dissemination of the Memory of a Nation: UNESCO’s Memory of the World Program,” with UNESCO experts Mr. Al-Amin Yusuph of UNESCO, and Dr. Ramesh Guar of the IGNCA.

In order to get a better understanding of the innovative methods employed by the collecting divisions of India’s important institutes, while in India, Director-General Tseng also took the opportunity to visit the IGNCA’s library, the National Museum, National Archives Museum, and Delhi Public Library. She exchanged experience with these institutions, deepening her knowledge of India, an important country with regard to Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy.
