The NCL and the Southern Taiwan Universityof Science and Technology co-hosted the 10th Outstanding Theses andDissertations Presentation and Competition. This is the tenth consecutive year of the event, which was held on May18th in STUST’s library. The purpose of the event is to encouragethe open access of outstanding theses, dissertations, and also scholarlypapers, as well as an increase in production of outstanding research in thisregard in Taiwan. The event also promotes the idea of open access for thesetheses and dissertations, so that there will be less plagiarism and thusincrease international visibility of research achievements in Taiwan. This year 24 master’s and doctoral students from a variety of disciplines andschools presented their research. These theses and dissertations will beauthorized for inclusion in the National Digital Library of Theses andDissertations in Taiwan database. Currently, this database has over one millionrecords, with over 440,000 full-text theses and dissertations—making it one ofthe most important scholarly resources on the web in Taiwan. It is also theonly complete national repository of theses and dissertations in theChinese-speaking world.
