Taiwan Lectures on Chinese Studies Invites Prof. Chu Ping-Tzu to Lecture at Kyoto University

On June 26, 2018, the NCL’s Center for Chinese Studies (CCS) and Kyoto University jointly held the third Taiwan Lecture on Chinese Studies of the year at the university’s Institute for Research in the Humanities. Prof. Chu Ping-tzu of National Tsing Hua University’s Department of Chinese Literature delivered the lecture, entitled “The Digital Humanities in Taiwan: Past, Present, and Future. 

One of Japan’s famous seats of learning, Kyoto University partnered with the National Central Library (NCL) in 2016 to establish a Taiwan Resource Center for Chinese Studies (TRCCS) at the university. The TRCCS provides access to Taiwan’s high-quality Chinese Studies research resources and is having a positive effect on disseminating this research in Japan.

In his lecture, Prof. Chu explained the digitalhumanities, the history of their development in Taiwan, and the difficultiesthey currently face.

This was the first Taiwan Lecture on ChineseStudies to be held at Kyoto University since the establishment of the TRCCS.After the lecture, experts from the university raised many probing questionsand exchanged views with Prof. Chu on the development of the digital humanitiesand prospects for their future.
