NCL Holds a Ceremony Marking the Start of the 2018 Summer Internship Program

At 10 a.m. on July 3, 2018, a ceremony was held at the National Central Library (NCL) for Taiwan’s Library and Information Science students marking the start of their summer internships. Participating in this year’s four-week program, taking place from July 2-27, were 11 students from the Library and Information Sciences and Public Affairs Administration departments of four universities: National Taiwan University, Fu Jen University, Tamkang University, and National Taitung University. Under the guidance of library staff, the interns studied different aspects of the library’s technical, reader, and promotional services. The curriculum included the bilingual library; audio-visual material and electronic resource categorization techniques; depositing publications; producing e-books; working with library collections; and reading and browsing services. The course content was meticulously planned by the various library departments to ensure that interns gained rich practical experience.

After offering a warm welcome to staff and students who had traveled long distances to attend, NCL deputy director-general Ms. Wu Ying-mei urged the interns to stop, look and listen as much as they could during their internship, to take full advantage of this valuable opportunity to learn and practice the skills of their profession.
