The National Central Library (NCL) held several Taiwan Lectures on Chinese Studies in Thailand and the UK during October and November 2018.
The first, and fifth Taiwan Lecture on Chinese Studies to be held this year, was held on October 30, 2018 to accompany the opening ceremony for Chulalongkorn University’s Taiwan Resource Center for Chinese Studies. The lecture, entitled “Thai Studies and Thai Images in Taiwan,” took place at the university and was given by Prof. Pei-hsiu Chen of National Chi Nan University’s Department of Southeast Asian Studies.
The sixth and seventh Taiwan Lectures on Chinese Studies of the year took place in the UK in November.
On November 9, 2018, Prof. Herng Su of National Chengchi University’s College of Communication lectured on “Populism, Social Media and the 2018 Mayoral Election in Taiwan” at SOAS Centre of Taiwan Studies in London. The lecture was moderated by the centre’s director, Prof. Dafydd Fell.
The final lecture was hosted at the University of Oxford on November 26. The director of the Institute of Chinese Literature and Philosophy at the Academia Sinica, Prof. Siao-chen Hu, delivered the lecture, which was on the theme “Representing Ethnicity in the Ming-Qing Literary Imagination.”
