National Central Library and the Ministryof Education cohosted the Ministry of Educations 53rd session of the2019 Cross-culture Ambassador Lecture on the afternoon of May 31 at NationalCentral Library. “TheSocial Impact of Musical Education on Children and Adolescents.” The discussantat this lecture was renowned pianist and Assistant Professor of Musicat National Taiwan University of Arts, who also happens to be an accomplishedalumnus of mdw, Lu Yi-Chih. Director Roland Rudorferfrom the Austrian Office Taipei and National Central Library Director-generalTseng Shu-hsien were also in attendance for the lecture.
The University of Music and Performing Arts,Vienna has a wonderful tradition in cultural music. Not only is it the largestuniversity of the arts in Austria, it is also ranked with Julliard in the US asthe top performing arts school in the world. Rector Sych’sexpertise is in vocals and piano, and she has vast experience as a musician anda music educator. During the lecture, Rector Sych not only shared her effortsover the years in artistic performance and education but also explained fromvarious angles the importance and positive influence that music education hason children and youth. Music education can train children and youth in theirability to feel and to create, as well as improve their memory and ability tolearn, and strengthen their self-confidence and social abilities.
Afterthe lecture, the audience took advantage of this rareopportunity to interact with Rector Sych, asking many questions regarding thecontent of her lecture. Rector Sych answered from aprofessional perspective, giving her views and feedback based on actualexperience. This interaction deepened the significance of the event.
