Workshop on Building a Collaboration & Sharing System and Operations Management System for Public Libraries held at NCL

On June 25-26, 2019, the National CentralLibrary (NCL) held a workshop on Building a Collaboration & Sharing Systemand Operations Management System for Public Libraries, with the aim of buildingan operations management system for all Taiwan’s public libraries and enhancingthe professional skills of library staff. The director of Shanghai Library, Mr.Chao Chen kindly accepted an invitation to attend the workshop, where he spoke withfellow librarians from Taiwan’s public libraries about the outstanding achievementsmade in the development and operation of Shanghai Library’s main and branchlibraries.

 

Onthe morning of June 25, Director Chen gave a lecture on “Shanghai Library,Present and Future,” in which he shared Shanghai Library’s practical experiencein promoting alliance cities’ main and branch library operations systems. Thatafternoon, Prof. Pao-nuan Hsieh, an associate professor at National TaiwanUniversity’s Department of Library and Information Science, delivereda lecture entitled “How Wonderful Library Services are.” Prof. Hsieh spoke on publiclibrary service quality indicators and discussed library service quality fromfour perspectives: laws and standards; public library assessment; estimatingservice quality; and self-assessment. In doing so, he provided some practical directionfor public libraries.

 

On June 26, Prof. Hao-ren Ke , UniversityLibrarian and the professor of Graduate Institute of Library & InformationStudies at National Taiwan Normal University, lectured on “Building PublicLibrary Systems for Collaboration and Sharing.” In his talk he described a developmentmodel for operations systems used in the main and branch libraries ofinternational indicator cities, examined the current state of operations inTaiwan’s public libraries, and offered some specific suggestions and directionfor its future main and branch library operations systems.

 

Atthe end of the workshop, NCL Director-General Shu-hsien Tseng invited theDirector of Taipei Public Library Shi-chang Hung, Director of Tainan PublicLibrary Yu-chen Hung , Director of Kaohsiung Public Library Cheng-yi Pan, and Directorof the Shanghai Library Coordination Office, Ms. Jing Ge, to participate in aninformal discussion. This concluded the workshop.
