From the 14th of October to the 16th, the National Central Library (NCL) invited a special guest, Ms. Jennefer Nicholson, Secretary General of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, (IFLA). She came for professional exchanges, lectures, and visits to libraries, cultural and educational facilities. It was a significant event which encouraged the library Community in Taiwan to participate in international activities. Indeed, a very “first” experience in the New Century for the library community in Taiwan! On the 15th of October, the NCL organized a special conference inviting national library and information leaders as well as representatives who have participated in the IFLA conferences over the years. Ms. Jennefer Nicholson delivered the keynote speech, introducing IFLA's vision and purpose, its organizational structure and special groups. She also spelled out the strategic plan for 2010-2015, the highlights of 2010 activities that emphasized regional participation and other interesting topics. A time for reactions and exchanges followed her presentation. Participants asked how to enhance Taiwan's participation in IFLA organization and in its General Assembly particularly how to attract, train and encourage young new professionals to participate in international activities.
