A Tie of Good Blessings

The pictures on this necktie are selected from a late 17th century publication "Jièzǐ yuán huà chuán” (literally “Painting Atlas of Jièzǐ Garden”; the Chinese phrase Jièzǐ symbolically conveys that it is a “small-size” garden) in the collection of the National Central Library. The significant achievement of this publication is its multiple layers imprinting of different colors, vividly and realistically exemplifying the different flowers, rocks, insects and butterflies in the garden. By such remarkable printing skill, it is possible to share the beautiful scenery of that special garden across generations. The National Central Library has selected images from this series of rare books that express positive symbolism and blessings. The image of peony symbolizes wealth and auspiciousness, the chrysanthemum stands for perseverance, the hemerocallis flower for affection love between mother and children, the bamboo for integrity and modesty, the lotus for noble character, and the praying mantis for vitality, prosperity, and a family of harmony and happiness. All these patterns are embroidered into this necktie, which conveys the wish of never-ending good blessings.
