Taiwan Studies on the World Stage: Prof. Michael Shiyung Liu Opens “Chinese Studies Lecture Series” in Russia

The NCL Center for Chinese Studies (CCS) held its annual overseas "Chinese Studies Lecture Series" in the first half of 2014 in partnership with chapters of the NCL-established Taiwan Resource Center for Chinese Studies. The first lecture was held on May 14 with the prestigious Institute of Oriental Studies (IOS) under the Russian Academy of Sciences at the institute's second floor seminar room. The seminar was hosted by IOS prof. Dr. Valentin Golovachev and featured a speech by Lu Yun-pin, chief of the Education Division under the Representative Office in Moscow for the Taipei-Moscow Economic and Cultural Coordination Commission.

Prof. Michael Shiyung Liu of the Institute of Taiwan History (ITH) at Academia Sinica presented a paper on "Digital Resources and Taiwan Studies" at the seminar. Dr. Liu earned his Ph.D. in history from the University of Pittsburgh in the United States. His research specialty is the economic history of postwar Taiwan and medical history. He is currently serving as research fellow and deputy director of the ITH.
