National Central Library Attends 2012 ALA Annual Conference Poster Exhibition and Taiwan Program Meeting

The 2012 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference was held from June 21-26 in Anaheim, California. Tseng, Shu-hsian Director-general of National Central Library and President of the Library Association of the Republic of China (Taiwan), took a group of important library and information science scholars from Taiwan to attend the conference. This year marks the first time Taiwan was able to organize a professional meeting as part of the annual conference. The theme was “How Taiwan Maximizes Its Information Services.” Director-general Tseng not only conducted the LIS Education part of the Taiwan Program, she also presented on “The Strategies and Actions for Public Libraries and the National Library in Taiwan to Promote Reading” during the session. In addition, National Central Library participated in ALA’s poster session, with a theme of “The 100th Year of the Republic: A Classic Time for Reading—108 Institutions Promote the Reading of Chinese Classics.” Director-general Tseng was at the booth, explaining the content to visitors and engaging in in-depth interaction and exchange. Former ALA President Barbara J. Ford personally attended NCL’s booth and extended her encouragement. Ms. Ford has visited NCL in the past. Director-general Tseng with Former ALA President Barbara J.
